There is a white diamond, hidden in the hills of Langhe, Roero and Monferrato, that earth offers us for three months per year only. It’s the white truffle, that just grows from October to January. Every year, this delicacy is celebrated in Alba with an international in scope fair: the International Alba White Truffle Fair.
It is not exaggerated to consider the white truffle as a jewel. In fact, that’s what it is. Just think that to purchase a handful of grams of it you could quietly spend about 50 Euros.
Every year, Alba becomes a bright stage that shows and offers to the whole world this delicious, tasty jewel. Unlike the black truffle, the white truffle is exclusive to be eaten raw, in accompaniment with eggs, risotto, raw meat and so on. Recently, fashion suggests to directly mix it with Sauvignon wine. An experience you should definitely try.
This year, the fair starts on October 7 and finishes on November 26.
The refined claim that will accompany the fair will be: “cut out for design.” The focus, in fact, will give prominence to what the town of Alba feels more proper: the well-balanced adjustment of design, art, culture and food and wine.
According to the selected focus, the meetings, the shows and the events will be really a lot.
The design will be the lead in the exhibition rigged up at Palazzo Banca d’Alba, de Truffle. Alessi design meets the White Truffle of Alba, resulting from the collaboration among the Centro Nazionale Studi Tartufo and the Ente Fiera Nazionale Tartufo Bianca d’Alba. The exhibit will be open to the public from September 27 to November 26; from Monday to Friday from 10 am to 12.30 pm and from 2 pm to 6 pm; Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 6.30 pm.
The show will offer 15 prototypes of “Kit for the White Truffle of Alba”, created by 15 designer and composed, each one, by a truffle cutter, an exhibitor and a container. In the same building, up to October 20, the exhibition Miroglio 70 years: the innovation is the tradition of our territory can be visited too. This exhibit will give the chance to all of us to appreciate garments realized with graphics from the ’50s, coming from the historical collection of Miroglio Textile.
International Alba White Truffle Fair 2017
A video-installation titled Holding the Milk, by Marina Abramović, will be on show in the choir of the Maddalena, from September 28 to November 12. In the meantime, the famous artist Tullio Pericoli will introduce its personal selection of 85 works devoted to the Piedmontese hilly landscape The hills ahead. A journey in Langhe, Roero and Monferrato, inside the church of St. Domenico. Both the shows offer free entry.
The church of St. Giovanni will instead be the centre of two different appointments: the exhibition of Enzo Cucchi Enzo Cucchi from the Castello di Rivoli Collections, that will be hosted inside the building, and the exhibition by photographer Enzo Massa, Piazzetta Unesco, situated in the square in front of the church.
The Reign of the White Truffle
Let’s not forget the real fulcrum of this international meeting: the White Truffle World Market of Alba. Pulsating heart of the fair, open every Saturday and Sunday, this market will take place inside the Cortile della Maddalena. Here, show cooking will happen, entertainment by the Alba Truffle Show, and wine tasting experiences. All meetings will be patronized by great Italian chefs and important guests.
Nearby, Piazza Risorgimento will be the stage for Tastes and Perfumes Living Room. This will be a complementary permanent exposure of the Piedmontese and Italian gastronomic excellences. A magic place for nose and palate, where you will enjoy tastings, workshops and didactic laboratories.
At last, jewels in the crown of this edition are the Ultimate Truffle Dinners, prestigious suppers that will be held at Ugo Alciati’s Guido Ristorante on October 25, and at Flavio Costa’s Restaurant 21.9 on November 20. Both the dinners will be 100% white truffle of Alba fueled, combined with unique elements of the international kitchen.
