Arriving by car to Volterra is always a unique experience. At first, you drive around the sweet tuscan hills painted in different shades depending on the season, green, gold and brown. And then, all of a sudden, a glimpse of the majestic city, at the top of a number of hairpin turns.

The most enchanting hotel in Volterra is, without a doubt, Hotel La Locanda. Recently opened after the renovation of a convent, the hotel is located in a quiet street of the city centre.

All the rooms, spacious and finely decorated, have private bathrooms with shower or bathtub, a/c, tv and wifi. The hotel offers also superior rooms with shower or jacuzzi and an elegant suite with shower-sauna.

The hotel offers also a private garden where to enjoy a moment of relaxation while sipping on a drink. While in the morning guests can indulge in a buffet breakfast with a wide selection of local cheeses and cold cuts, eggs, homemade cakes and fruits.

Just five minutes from the hotel, there’s the restaurant Etruria, directly in the fascinating Piazza dei Priori. Etruria is a rewarded restaurant, managed for 20 years by the Cordon Bleu Chef Beppino Raspi and is specialized in the typical dishes of the tuscan tradition from truffles to homemade pasta.

The Palazzo dei Priori in Volterra

Since the beginning of the warm season, Volterra, jewel of etruscan origin, is definitely worth a visit. Located in the middle of Tuscany, the city wakes up from the winter hibernation since most of the restaurants and shops are closed during winter in Volterra.

The city centre is easily accessible by foot: the Palazzo dei Priori in the square by the same name, the Cathedral from the XII century, the Fortezza Medicea, the Acropoli and the various “porte” (doors) that circumscribe the centre of the village.
