Castello del Nero dates back to the XII century, when the del Nero family built this manor as a summer residence. Indeed it was a common custom, for the noble florentine families, to build a retreat on the Chianti hills in order to escape from the terrible heat that suffocates Florence during the summer time. The family kept the castle for centuries. Adding the chapel devoted to San Michele Arcangelo, or the structure of the Italian Garden.

In 1825 the family died out and the property passed to the Torrigianis. The castle was then bought in the year 2000 by the italo-american Rober Trotta, with the aim of turning the estate in the most luxurious hotel Chianti had ever seen. After six years of renovation, trying to keep the traditional structure as much as possible, Castello del Nero hotel and Spa opened its doors. And last year, in 2016, it celebrated its first 10 years of success.
