Are you holding fiercely onto the last remains of summer? If you aren’t ready yet to give up sunbathing and beach volley, take this summer last call: visit South Corsica and its most beautiful beaches.
Beautiful, wild and harsh. Corsica is an island where Nature expresses itself in all its forms: sea, mountains, and rivers. The beaches, especially, attract tourists with their turquoise sea, white sand and, right behind, the green and the scents of the Mediterranean. But which beaches are the most beautiful and exciting? Here are the 5 most beautiful beaches in South Corsica, to be visited at least once in your life!
SANTA GIULIA: THE MOST FAMOUS BEACH OF ALL THE ISLAND
Corsica’s worldwide renown beach is Santa Giulia. It’s made of fine white sand, 2km long, surrounded by a crystal clear sea and the greenery of the Mediterranean scrub. For its peculiar beauty, it has been dubbed the “Polynesia of Corsica“. It’s a beach suitable for families and children.
Located in the South of Porto Vecchio and next to another beach, Palombaggia, Santa Giulia is always packed with tourists, so it’s better to go early in the morning to take your place! Let yourself be amazed by Santa Giulia’s marvelous colors, its white sand, and the natural landscape that surrounds it.
PALOMBAGGIA: THE BEACH BORN FROM THE ENCOUNTER OF DIFFERENT CREEKS
Situated in the north of Santa Giulia, Palombaggia is one of the most beautiful beaches in Corsica. It is, in fact, a stretch of coast that was born from the encounter of different creeks. The coast is surrounded by rocks and a thick pine forest; the water is transparent and the sand is clear. Near Palombaggia there are two other beaches, Tamaricciu and Acciaju, which are part of the same shore. Tamaricciu is known for its pine tree, located on a strip of sand that stretches into the sea. Acciaju is the extension of Tamaricciu, and it’s a very quiet beach.
RONDINARA: THE WILD BEACH OF THE SOUTHERN COAST
Located between Porto Vecchio and Bonifacio, to the south of Santa Giulia, Rondinara is a magnificent creek on the south coast of Corsica, considered the 3rd most beautiful beach in Europe according to Lonely Planet. The peculiarity of this beach is the road to reach it: panoramic and desolate. The place is also characterized by two peninsulas at its extremities, which almost seem to touch, forming a circular creek. For pure nature lovers, Rondinara is the ideal beach: white and fine sand, clear water and wild and unspoiled environment, where you can also meet cows that run freely on the sand.
ROCCAPINA: THE BEACH PROTECTED BY THE ROCK OF THE LION
Situated between Porto Vecchio and Ajaccio, in the area of Sartène, Roccapina is also considered one of the most beautiful beaches on the south of the island. The trail to reach it is quite extreme and dirt, about 3 km long, but the panorama that you’ll encounter repays all the effort!
Roccapina beach is wide and long, the sand is very fine, white and bright, and the water is turquoise. The peculiarity of this beach is the Lion of Roccapina, a giant rock whose shape recalls the appearance of a lion lying and protecting the entire beach from above.
LAVEZZI: BEACHES AND COVES OF A TROPICAL BEAUTY
A few kilometers from Bonifacio, between Sardinia and Corsica, in the famous Bouches of Bonifacio, lies the island of Lavezzi. Many define it as I Lavezzi (plural in Italian), considering the group of rocks that compose it. The sea of this island is astonishing and full of fish. Of extraordinary beauty, the beaches and coves of this island are surrounded by a wide variety of flora and fauna, and they can only be reached by boat. One of the most beautiful coves is Cala Lazzarina, a long and deep beach surrounded by transparent sea, ideal for underwater and snorkeling lovers. In the wider part of the beach, there is a giant stone that is used as a natural springboard.
Since 1982, Lavezzi has been classified as a nature reserve, so it’s good to comply with the regulations of this archipelago.
Ready for your last summer trip? These South Corsica beaches will amaze you with their colors, scents and the green of the surrounding nature. A true paradise.
For pure nature lovers.
